Legal equality designed by those who've been there.

In a society ruled by law, access to justice should be easy. The good, the bad, the powerful and the weak are all bound by law. There should be no imbalance in applying law in a dispute.

But we know that barriers exist to access justice. Money and education put you in a far superior position. Which puts the people with the most pressing legal needs at a disadvantage. Unresolved or unfairly resolved disputes can deepen existing inequities.

Dispute Buddy gives everyone access to justice.

When you’re in a legal dispute, a court or tribunal looks at the history of your written communication to inform the resolution of the dispute.

At the moment, the process of gathering and presenting that information favours those with money, education, tech skills and spare time. Which tend to be the preserve of the privileged.

We want to hear from you if you have been in a dispute, or are a dispute lawyer. This research will help us design an outcome that ensures legal equality.

Who are we?

Jenny Rudd

In an urgent application to the court under the Care of Children Act, I spent over 20 hours scouring through emails, texts and Messenger, not knowing what was enough. I had my own business and access to a lawyer, and wondered how on earth anyone would do this if they didn't have access to the same support.

The idea for Dispute Buddy came when I had to navigate a tribunal where lawyers weren't part of the process. I needed to gather and present hundreds of pages of communications to present to the tribunal. I thought, there has to be a better way to do this.
